Brand Identity Project 01

Rebranding the Hive

Within a year of The Claremont Colleges securing funds for the Hive, an initial logo, color palette, and type set were created to visually represent this new student design center. Two years later, there was a recognized need to expand the brand and refresh these assets to better reflect the diversity of student voices and the interdisciplinary experiences this creative hub offers. We kicked off the rebrand as a sprint in an effort to align on long-term goals, refine the brand narrative, and explore new visual directions. Post-sprint, we designed the new brand assets in earnest under the direction of the Hive’s Director of Design, Kareem Collie. These new assets included an updated logo, a custom font, expanded color palette, illustrations, photography guidelines, website mockups, and a brand book.

Brand Identity Project 02

JMU X-Labs Visual Identity

The objective was to create a symbol for the next generation of inventors and entrepreneurs at James Madison University. This is JMU X-Lab’s mission– increase the number of students who start businesses, create new technologies, and solve big daunting problems. To gain inspiration, I interviewed over 20 stakeholders, documented the newly acquired prototyping equipment and space, performed visual research, and considered the activities JMU X-Labs would facilitate. This research helped me identify and eventually visually articulate a key aspect of this center’s purpose: cross-disciplinary connection and collaboration.
